Filmmaking Enrichment Program

Come learn the in's and out's of film making and create your very own film! This program is for teenagers interested in film and video editing. You will learn about script writing, video direction, audio and lighting and much more!

The program concludes with a screening of participant films, with the Best Overall film becoming an automatic selection in the 2024 SE Pa Teen Filmmakers Showcase held at the Movie Tavern Exton!

Before starting the course, participants must have:
Interest in Filmmaking
Functional laptop with editing software or internet access (Program staff can be make recommendations that are free/cost effective)
Functional video recording device (can be phone)
Ability to film and edit independently after guided lessons
Commitment to completing a short film from development through to final product

Course Dates: September 28 - December 14; Thursdays from 6p-7p
Meetings will be a mix of in person and Zoom
Program Fee: $200 that includes a $42 materials fee

At the end of the program, participants will be invited to keep:
Workbook
Clapboard
Foam Core Light Box w/Orange
Certificate of Completion

About the staff:

Laura Maalouf holds an MA in Communications, with experience in film-making and Education since 2009.  She is a Communications and Business Teacher at Downingtown Area School District where she teaches video production and broadcasting, as well as the Educational Director of the SE Pennsylvania Teen Filmmaker's Showcase. In addition to these roles, she is a freelance voiceover artist for ACX, and the owner of Boardwalk Peanut Productions, LTD., a video editing service and recently completed a certificate program through NYU's Tisch School for the Arts in Film and Television. 

Jason Lang is the Parks and Recreation Director for East Goshen Township and the founder of the SE PA Teen Filmmaker Showcase, the premiere film festival in the greater Philadelphia area exclusively for teenagers. Since 2019, over 125 teens have debuted their films each August at the Showcase and many are now working in the film industry or attending film schools such as NYU, USC, Temple, UArts, PSU and Top Sail University.
